Dr. Mandell has extensive leadership experience as a member or President on many boards for a variety of organizations, including many 501(c)3s. Currently, Dr. Mandell serves on the South Carolina Board of Examiners in Psychology, appointed by Governor Nikki Haley in July 2016, City of Columbia, SC Planning Commission, and the Board of Trustees for Historic Columbia. In the past, she has served as President of the South Carolina Psychological Association, President of the South Carolina Association of Professional Psychologists, Chair of the Board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Columbia, member of the board of the National Mentoring Committee of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a prior term as a member of the City of Columbia Planning Commission and other nonprofit organizations. Dr. Mandell’s roles with nonprofit boards have been focused on strategic planning, development, and leadership.
When Dr. Mandell was completing her Ph.D. in Eugene, OR she worked primarily with children and adolescents, with an emphasis on those at risk, in both research and clinical/direct service capacities. As a licensed psychologist in the state of South Carolina she has provided management and leadership through her work as an external evaluator of many federal grants that have served students. She has reported on grant implementation to the federal government and to local educational organizations, created and overseen the administration of evaluation tools such as surveys and qualitative instruments, and provided support and leadership for grant staff.
